  • UVIT features a large field of view and superior spatial resolution (better than 1.5 arcseconds), making it unique globally alongside the Hubble Space Telescope.
  • A specialized laboratory, the MGK Menon Laboratory, was established for operating sensitive components to prevent contamination.

  • The UVIT project involved collaborations with several institutes, including IUCAA (Pune), TIFR (Mumbai), and ISRO's various centers.

Future Prospects:

  • Based on two decades of experience, plans to develop a next-generation space facility, the Indian National Spectroscopic and Imaging Space Telescope (INSIST), have been initiated.
  • An academic workshop is scheduled for December 4, 2025, to discuss future UV telescope functionalities and missions.
