Summary of Ayurveda Manuscripts Preservation Initiative

Initiative Overview:

• The initiative focuses on the preservation of India's Ayurvedic knowledge heritage, specifically through the transcription of manuscripts written in Tigalari and ancient Kannada scripts.
• A 15-day capacity-building workshop was inaugurated at the Sri Puthige Narasimha Sabha Bhavan, Udupi, organized by the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) and the Central Sanskrit University (CSU) under the Ministry of AYUSH and Ministry of Education, respectively.

Key Objectives:

• Enhance scholars' expertise in reading, understanding, and transcribing Ayurvedic manuscripts preserved in Tigalari and ancient Kannada scripts prevalent in Karnataka's coastal regions.

Participants and Inauguration:

• The workshop was inaugurated by Professor Vaidya Rabinarayan Acharya, Director General of CCRAS, with the presence of various dignitaries including administrators and directors from related institutions such as the National Institute of Indian Medical Heritage (NIIMH) and Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CARI).

Strategic Importance:

• Highlighted the importance of preserving and disseminating Ayurvedic knowledge, aligning with the Government of India's "Gyaan Bharatam Mission" aimed at enhancing the country's rich knowledge traditions.

Training Program Details:

• The workshop is designed to empower young scholars from Ayurvedic and Sanskrit backgrounds to collaboratively understand, transcribe, edit, and prepare unpublished manuscripts for publication.
• This is the third workshop of its kind, following previous events in Odisha (focused on Karni/Devanagari scripts) and Kerala (focused on Vattezhuthu/Malayalam scripts).

Expected Outcomes:

• The transcribed manuscripts developed during the workshop will be utilized by CCRAS and CSU for publication, contributing to the preservation and wide dissemination of India's traditional knowledge resources.

Participation:

• Involves faculty members and students from Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Ayurvedic College, Udupi, and Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Ayurvedic College, Hassan, along with Sanskrit students from the Gurukul of Sri Puthige Math.
