Delhi Landfill Sites Clean-Up Initiative

On August 27, 2025, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta convened a review meeting on solid waste management in Delhi, where she mandated the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to clear the three landfill sites in the capital by December 2026. • New Waste Management Initiatives: The meeting discussed plans to establish new waste management centres in each zone and to develop biogas plants for dairy waste management.
• Urban Infrastructure Development: The construction of multilevel parking facilities in high-footfall markets such as Karol Bagh and Kamla Nagar was prioritized to address urban congestion.
• Interagency Coordination: Chief Minister Gupta emphasized the need for integrated efforts and coordination among various governmental agencies to facilitate the timely execution of WTE plants, including the resolution of issues like the shifting of power transmission lines.
• Funding Proposal Development: MCD has been tasked with creating a comprehensive funding proposal that factors in the needs of sanitation staff and gardeners to enhance ground-level operational effectiveness.

The meeting was attended by other key officials, including Urban Development Minister Ashish Sood, Delhi Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh, and senior MCD officials, including Commissioner Ashwani Kumar.
